The Skeleton Lies Back

The skeleton lies back in his
weary racked bones
the spine arches with a pain
internal
the skull rotates back
chin in the air jaw agape
in some unnameable horror
the end of immortality
the bone fingers hover flitting
over calcium loins awash
in knowing no progrney ever
spewed out

The ties are gone
The light is cold
in the long night that groans
