I don't understand why some people are so focussed on supposed lies by Michael
Moore, Jane Fonda (what? 40 years ago?), etc - people who are not
elected, not accountable to the people of America. I never hear them
comment on the lies of those who profoundly affect America's path
through history, whose wrong conduct is incalculably more damaging -
i.e., our current government's elected and appointed officials. Bush and
his administration have lied about:
- Terrorism, Iraq, and the two wars we're fighting. I've been talking
about this for 3 years. Last year's lie about why we had to invade Iraq.
The almost complete absence of references to Osama bin Laden any more
(hey, isn't he the one we're supposed to be bringing to justice?). The
lie about Iraq on its way to democracy. The lie about our "progress" in
the "war on terror". The lie about the "coalition". The lie about al
Qaeda in Iraq. (Of course, they are there now, after we opened up the
country to them.) And on and on. His claim that his war is working is
bogus, especially when he says we have not been attacked in 3 years.
We're going to be attacked again. I have no doubt about it. He even said
it once (and almost immediately withdrew it). We are going to be
attacked, and the Bush administration still hasn't beefed up homeland
security to handle the inevitable. A great portion of
- Health care. Wow, how can anyone swallow his statement that seniors
are getting more affordable health care? Look at the sky-rocketing
insurance rates. Did you try to read that gibberish about the
prescription drug plan? You need a lawyer, an accountant, and an
economist at your side to help you figure out what to do.
- The economy. Again, how can anyone swallow the lies about the
economy "recovering", when Bush took it to the brink of disaster in the
- Jobs. Look at the numbers. Net job loss during his term is
phenomenal, yet he claims he's looking out for the American workers.
- The environment. "Clear Skies"? What a lie! This program results in
dirtier air than ever before, because he has to pay back the corporate
interests that pushed him into office. "Healthy Forests"? What a lie!
Again, a disguise to let logging companies rape even more of the
American people's wilderness for profit without accountability. Global
warming? He lies, saying that America has the right to pollute the whole
world's air for the sake of its own greed. Ground Zero pollution was
ignored by him, despite evidence presented by expert scientists (of
course, he typically refuses to let evidence change his mind), and
people are suffering because of it. Just about every environmental
policy is geared not to the benefit of American citizens but to the
endlessly rising profits of the corporations that paid to get Bush into
the White House.
- Kerry's military service record. How despicable, to lie about it
for political gain. Swift Boat people are citizens, not government, so
they have the right to lie their asses off. But what about Bush? He
should have denounced these lies. But he did nothing, implying he
approves of the lies.
- Bush's military service record. So the man goofed off during his
military service - drinking, partying, gaining privilege because of his
family's position. I don't care. Lots of guys did that. What I can't
stomach is his not being straight forward with the American people
(Didn't Republicans jump all over Clinton for not being straight
forward?), and his support of people who would denigrate a man who
actually served in combat and was awarded hero medals. This boggles my
mind, that some people actually buy that load of crap. Let's get off
this Vietnam boat and get on with the real issues.
- Abu Ghraib. How far up the military chain of command do you suppose
the reponsibility rises? More than 4 months after Americans were plunged
into this scandal, we have prosecuted a number of low-level troops, but
commanders are getting off with no responsibility (except for Karpinski,
who claims any control she was supposed to have was wrested away from
her). Seems to me that the troops who tortured and humiliated detainees
had commanders who should have known what was going on. If they didn't
know, why didn't they know? That's their job - to oversee the job the
troops are doing. This kind of responsibility goes all the way up the
ladder to - guess what? the commander in chief. But if you look on his
desk, I think you will see that Truman's sign has been changed to "The
Buck Never Gets Here". What a weasel!
- Taxes. He says the tax cuts are working. Sure, they are working for
the rich, who now pay even less. For everybody else? Just add up the
cost of interest on the humongous debt, and the cost of the bogus war in
Iraq, and figure out how much of that you are going to pay out of your
pocket for years to come. Do you think the rebate will cover it? Are we
really better off?
- And a host of other bald lies. I get tired of trying to list them
all. I'm sure there are Web pages that do that nicely.
